1)   HOW TO INSTALL A HINGED SECURITY DOOR –  SAFETY

  1. Always wear protective safety glasses when using tools and ensure that loose items of clothing, hair and jewelry are retained.
  2. Always cut away from your body and hands when using a utility knife.
  3. Clear the work area of any potential hazards before commencing work.

2)    HOW TO INSTALL A HINGED SECURITY DOOR - CONTENTS PROVIDED

  1. Hinged security door with lock body pre-assembled & hinges installed
  2. Lock furniture with all necessary accessories & fasteners for installation
  3. Accessories selected during the ordering process
  4. Phillips driver
  5. 3mm drill bit for pre-drilling
  6. Striker notch out templates. Main and for triple locks an auxiliary template
  7. 5mm packer
  8. 10 countersunk 8G – 25mm Phillips screws

3)    HOW TO INSTALL A HINGED SECURITY DOOR - TOOLS REQUIRED

  1. Metric tape measure (Good quality steel tape measure)
  2. Pencil
  3. Cordless drill
  4. Rivet gun
  5. Hammer
  6. Nail Punch
  7. 12mm chisel or smaller
  8. Utility knife
  9. Phillips screwdriver #2

4)    HOW TO INSTALL A HINGED SECURITY DOOR - HANG DOOR

  1. If you required adhesive mohair with your order install it first by peeling off the protective tape and pushing it onto the exterior face of the door stop.
  2. Place the 5mm packer on the sill against the hinge side of the door jamb.
  3. Open the hinges and set the hinged security door on the 5mm packer such that the door is perpendicular to the opening (open position).
  4. Ensure there is a 1mm gap between the butt of the top hinge and the exterior face of the door jamb. Pre-drill a hole in the centre of the slotted hole of the hinge and insert one of the 8G – 25mm Phillips screws.
  5. Repeat step c. for the bottom hinge.

Note: for steps c. & d. if you required hinge packers & adhesive mohair with your order the butt of your hinge will be on the door jamb and you will need to place the inside edge of the hinge at 6mm from the door stop. The hinge packers are placed between the door jamb and the hinges.

6.  Remove the 5mm packer.

7.  Swing the door to the closed position. Ensure the door swings freely and there are no obstructions to the swing path of the door. Check if there is sufficient clearance on all four sides of the door (3mm on either side & 5mm on top and bottom).  If adjustments are required loosen both screws in the hinges and make necessary adjustments.

8. Pre-drill the remaining 7 holes in the hinges and insert the 8G – 25mm Phillips screws.

5)    HOW TO INSTALL A HINGED SECURITY DOOR - INSTALL CYLINDER

See lock manufacturer’s instructions #3 in box for diagrams.

  1. Insert cylinder lock so cam turns towards front of door.
  2. Secure cylinder lock body with 32mm screw. Do not over tighten this screw as it may jam the locking mechanism.
  3. Insert spindle into lock body.

6)    HOW TO INSTALL A HINGED SECURITY DOOR - FIT LOCK FURNITURE

See lock manufacturer’s instructions #4 – #5 in box for diagrams.

  1. Prepare furniture by rotating lever to the required handing position.
  2. Fit furniture plates ensuring snib is on the inside face of the door and in the vertical position.

Note: This is different from the manufacturer’s instructions on How to Install a Hinged Security Door because your lock has already been independently tested by OnlineSecurityScreens.com.au and is therefore not in the factory set deadlock position.

3. Secure furniture plates with 25mm screws. Fit mounting hole plugs.

4. Close timber door and hinged security door ensuring there are no interferences.

7)    HOW TO INSTALL A HINGED SECURITY DOOR - CHECK LOCK FUNCTION

See lock manufacturer’s instructions #7 – #8 in box for diagrams.

  1. Depress release button, to release the hook bolt. Then depress the handle to disengage the hook bolt.  Repeat several times ensuring smooth operation.
  2. Depress release button, to release the hook bolt. Ensure you continue depressing the release button for steps c, d & e.
  3. Rotate the snib to the lock position and unlock with the key.
  4. Rotate the snib to lock and unlock positions. Repeat several times ensuring smooth operation. Check that when in the locked position the hook bolt can not be disengaged with the levers. If the door is fitted with triple locks they should engage and disengage with the main lock.
  5. Insert the key and rotate to lock and unlock positions. Repeat several times ensuring smooth operation. Check that when in the locked position the hook bolt can not be disengaged with the levers. If the door is fitted with triple locks they should engage and disengage with the main lock.

8)    HOW TO INSTALL A HINGED SECURITY DOOR - FIT CENTRE STRIKER PLATE

See lock manufacturer’s instructions #9 – #12 in box for diagrams. Note: The below steps are different from the How to Install a Hinged Security Door manufacturer’s instructions because OnlineSecurityScreens.com.au has provided a centre template for ease of installation.

  1. Hold the door against the jamb and mark a line on the jamb level with the mark on the front of the central lock body. Place a mark at 20mm in from the exterior edge of the door jamb (if your door is mounted flush with the exterior edge, otherwise you will need to determine the location of your striker plate)
  2. Align the bottom & inside edge of the centre template with the marks just made on the door jamb. Ensure you take note of where the bolt recess should be in relation to these marks for correct placement of the centre template.
  3. Mark bolt recess and screw hole positions with a pencil.
  4. Chisel out the timber to form a bolt recess at least 20mm deep.
  5. Pre-drill screw hole positions.
  6. Fix the striker plate to the door jamb with two Phillips screws.

9)    HOW TO INSTALL A HINGED SECURITY DOOR - FIT AUXILIARY STRIKER PLATES (ONLY FOR TRIPLE LOCKS)

See lock manufacturer’s instructions #17 – #12 in box for diagrams. Note: The below steps are different from the How to Install a Hinged Security Door manufacturer’s instructions because OnlineSecurityScreens.com.au has provided an auxiliary for ease of installation.

  1. Hold the door against the jamb and mark a line on the jamb level with the mark on the front of the auxiliary lock body. Place a mark at 20mm in from the exterior edge of the door jamb (if your door is mounted flush with the exterior edge, otherwise you will need to determine the location of your striker plate)
  2. Align the bottom & inside edge of the auxiliary template with the marks just made on the door jamb. Ensure you take note of where the bolt recess should be in relation to these marks for correct placement of the auxiliary.
  3. Mark bolt recess and screw hole positions with a pencil.
  4. Chisel out the timber to form a bolt recess at least 20mm deep.
  5. Pre-drill screw hole positions.
  6. Fix the auxiliary striker plate to the door jamb with two Phillips screws.
  7. Repeat all steps for second auxiliary lock.

10)    HOW TO INSTALL A HINGED SECURITY DOOR - FIT STOP BEAD

  1. Close hinged security door.
  2. Start 4 nails in the top piece of stop bead at equal spacing’s. Keep the two end nails in 40mm from the end.
  3. Place top piece of stop bead gently against security door. Hold the lock side of the stop bead with one hand and open the door slightly to allow you to hit the nail with a hammer. Repeat this for the remaining 3 nails. Try to leave a 1mm gap between the stop bead and the door on the hinge side.
  4. Set lock side stop bead into position and mark length with a pencil. Cut stop bead to length with utility knife.
  5. Start 7 nails in the lock side stop bead at equal spacing’s. Keep the two end nails in 40mm from the end.
  6. Place lock side stop bead gently against security door. Hold the top of the stop bead with one hand and open the door slightly to allow you to hit the nail with a hammer. Repeat this for the remaining 6 nails.
  7. Set hinge side stop bead into position and mark length with a pencil. Cut stop bead to length with utility knife.
  8. Start 7 nails in the hinge side stop bead at equal spacing’s. Keep the two end nails in 40mm from the end.
  9. Place hinge side stop bead gently against security door. Slide the stop bead slightly away, about 1mm, from the door (this prevents the door from becoming hinge bound and squeaking when operated). Hold the top of the stop bead with one hand and open the door slightly to allow you to hit the nail with a hammer. Repeat this for the remaining 6 nails.
  10. Countersink all 18 nails with a nail punch.

 

11)     HOW TO INSTALL A HINGED SECURITY DOOR - FIT BUG SEAL

  1. Pre-drill bug seal in three places near the top edge. 80mm in from each end and centre.
  2. The bug seal fits on the outside of the security door at the bottom with the raised edge facing out.
  3. Set the bug seal in this position by resting it on the mohair. The ends of the bug seal should be flush or slightly in from the edge of the door.
  4. Pre-drill through one of the end holes into the door.
  5. Insert one of the 4-4 rivets.
  6. Repeat step d. & e. for remaining two holes.

12)    HOW TO INSTALL A HINGED SECURITY DOOR - FIT PNEUMATIC DOOR CLOSER

  1. Hold jamb bracket against hinge side jamb, 40mm down from top of door jamb with a gap between door and bracket of 12 – 25mm.
  2. Mark & pre-drill 3 holes. Fix bracket to jamb using 25mm screws.
  3. Align groove in piston rod with end of cylinder and hold with hold open washer. Close security door. Place the end of the rod into jamb bracket and tongue of closer into the door bracket.
  4. Position door bracket level on door and mark visible slotted hole. Remove closer and pre-drill hole in centre of slotted mark. Fix bracket to door with 12mm screw. Re-fit closer by first placing the tongue of the closer into the door bracket then the rod into the jamb bracket.
  5. Disengage hold open washer and test closer for correct operation. Adjust closing speed by turning speed regulator screw at end of door closer.
  6. Remove closer and pre-drill in round hole furthest from slotted hole with screw. Fix bracket with remaining 12mm screw. Re-fit closer by first placing the tongue of the closer into the door bracket then the rod into the jamb bracket.
