1)    HOW TO INSTALL A SLIDING SECURITY DOOR - SAFETY

  1. Always wear protective safety glasses when using tools and ensure that loose items of clothing, hair and jewelry are retained.
  2. Always cut away from your body and hands when using a utility knife.
  3. Clear the work area of any potential hazards before commencing work.

2)    HOW TO INSTALL A SLIDING SECURITY DOOR - CONTENTS PROVIDED

  1. Sliding security door with lock body pre-assembled, rollers installed & canoe clips installed if selected
  2. Lock furniture with all necessary accessories & fasteners for installation
  3. Frame interlock
  4. Accessories selected during the ordering process
  5. Phillips driver
  6. Security driver
  7. 3mm drill bit for pre-drilling
  8. 4mm drill bit for pre-drilling
  9. 6 powdercoated pan head 10G – 25mm security screws

3)    HOW TO INSTALL A SLIDING SECURITY DOOR - TOOLS REQUIRED

  1. Metric tape measure (Good quality steel tape measure)
  2. Pencil
  3. Phillips screwdriver #2
  4. Cordless drill
  5. Rivet gun
  6. Hacksaw (possibly)

4)   HOW TO INSTALL A SLIDING SECURITY DOOR –  FIT & PLUMB DOOR

  1. Insert door into top track. Depress bottom rollers and set onto bottom runner.
  2. Slide door next to receiver channel and check that they are parallel.
  3. If the door and receiver channel are not parallel raise the necessary bottom roller by turning the adjustment screw clockwise. Slide door the full length of the track to ensure smooth operation and travel path is free from obstructions.

Note: If your order required a fixed stile interlock take note of the number of clicks (adjustment level) required. Skip to step 5 of the How to Install a Sliding Security Door instructions.

4.  Slide the door to the closed position. Adjust both top rollers with feather weight pressure by turning the adjustment screw clockwise until they stop. Slide door the full length of the track to ensure smooth operation and travel path is free from obstructions.  If the door does not slide easily loosen one or both of the top rollers. Skip to step 7 of the How to Install a Sliding Security Door instructions.

5)    HOW TO INSTALL A SLIDING SECURITY DOOR - FIT FIXED STILE INTERLOCK

  1. Slide the door to the closed position. Mark the back edge of the door at the top and bottom on the fixed glass panel with a pencil.
  2. Loosen off the bottom roller that you adjusted in step 4.c of the How to Install a Sliding Security Door instructions. and remove the door by depressing the bottom rollers and swinging the bottom of the door out until the top drops out of the top track.
  3.  Place fixed stile interlock on the lock side of the two pencil marks to create a slot to receive the frame interlock. The fixed stile interlock should be centered vertically on the fixed glass panel. Take note and mark where you can attach the fixed stile interlock to the glass door such that the fasteners will not contact the glass.
  4. Take the fixed stile interlock down and pre-drill 5 equally spaced holes in the positions marked in step 5.c of the How to Install a Sliding Security Door instructions. Use the 4mm drill bit for the 3mm & 7mm stepped interlock. Use the 3mm drill bit for the flat interlock.
  5. Place fixed stile interlock into same position as step 5.c of the How to Install a Sliding Security Door instructions and pre-drill glass door frame with 3mm drill bit through the top hole in the fixed stile interlock taking care not to come in contact with the glass.
  6. Insert fastener provided into top hole. 4-4 rivets for flat interlock, pan head 8G – 10mm phillips screws for 3mm & 7mm stepped interlock.
  7. Pre-drill glass door frame with 3mm drill bit through the bottom hole in the fixed stile interlock taking care not to come in contact with the glass.
  8. Insert fastener provided into bottom hole.
  9. Slide door the full length of the track to ensure there is no interference between the security door and the fixed stile interlock.  If there is interference, remove the fixed stile interlock and cut down with hacksaw to remove interference.
  10. Pre-drill glass door frame with 3mm drill bit through remaining three holes in the fixed stile interlock taking care not to come in contact with the glass.
  11. Insert fasteners provided into three remaining holes.

6)    HOW TO INSTALL A SLIDING SECURITY DOOR - RE-FIT & PLUMB DOOR

  1. Re-insert door into top track. Depress bottom rollers and set onto bottom runner.
  2. Re-adjust bottom rollers to same number of clicks (adjustment level) as step 4.c of the How to Install a Sliding Security Door instructions.
  3. Slide door next to receiver channel and check that they are parallel.
  4. If the door and receiver channel are not parallel raise the necessary bottom roller by turning the adjustment screw clockwise. Slide door the full length of the track to ensure smooth operation and travel path is free from obstructions.
  5. Slide the door to the closed position. Adjust both top rollers with feather weight pressure by turning the adjustment screw clockwise until they stop. Slide door the full length of the track to ensure smooth operation and travel path is free from obstructions.  If the door does not slide easily loosen one or both of the top rollers.

7)    HOW TO INSTALL A SLIDING SECURITY DOOR - INSTALL CYLINDER

See lock manufacturer’s instructions #3c in box for diagrams.

  1. Insert cylinder lock so cam turns towards front of door.
  2. Secure cylinder lock body with 32mm screw. Do not over tighten this screw as it may jam the locking mechanism.

8)    HOWT TO INSTALL A SLIDING SECURITY DOOR - FIT LOCK HANDLES

See lock manufacturer’s instructions #3a – #3b in box for diagrams. Note: The below How to Install a Sliding Security Door steps are different from the manufacturer’s instructions because your lock has already been independently tested by OnlineSecurityScreens.com.au.

  1. Handle with the snib is the internal handle. Handle with the plastic snib plug is the external handle.
  2. Fit handles to lock ensuring that the snib lever is in an upright position.
  3. Secure handle plates with 18mm countersunk thread forming screws (note these screws form their own thread).
  4. Ensure there is no interference between your security door handle and your glass door handle.

9)    HOW TO INSTALL A SLIDING SECURITY DOOR - CHECK LOCK FUNCTION

  1. Depress release button with phillips screw driver, to engage the latch. Then rotate the lever to disengage the latch.  Repeat several times ensuring smooth operation.
  2. Depress release button, to engage the latch.
  3. Turn the snib to the lock position and unlock with the key.
  4. Turn the snib to lock and unlock positions. Repeat several times ensuring smooth operation. If the door is fitted with triple locks they should engage and disengage with the main lock.
  5. Insert the key and rotate to lock and unlock positions. Repeat several times ensuring smooth operation. If the door is fitted with triple locks they should engage and disengage with the main lock.

10)     HOW TO INSTALL A SLIDING SECURITY DOOR - FIT CENTRE LATCH STRIKER

See lock manufacturer’s instructions #5 in box for diagrams.

  1. Ensure lock body is in an unlock position. Push latch striker into lock body.
  2. Partially close the door and mark the position of latch striker on outside of receiver channel.
  3. Remove latch sticker from lock body. Align with the marks just made on the receiver channel and centre the latch striker in the receiver channel.
  4. Pre-drill with the 3mm drill bit in the centre of the two slotted holes.
  5. Fix latch striker to receiver channel with two 12mm countersunk phillips screws.
  6. Close door and ensure there is no interference between the latch striker and lock body. Ensure the lock operates smoothly.  If adjustments are required loosen the two screws and adjust latch striker position as required.

11)     HOW TO INSTALL A SLIDING SECURITY DOOR - FIT AUXILIARY LATCH STRIKERS (ONLY FOR TRIPLE LOCKS)

  1. Ensure lock body is in an unlock position and that the release button in the centre lock has been depressed. Insert the bottom latch striker into the bottom auxiliary lock body and lock the door to retain the latch striker.
  2. Partially close the door and mark the position of the bottom latch striker on outside of receiver channel.
  3. Remove bottom latch striker from lock body. Align with the marks just made on the receiver channel and centre the bottom latch striker in the receiver channel.
  4. Pre-drill with the 3mm drill bit in the centre of the two slotted holes.
  5. Fix bottom latch striker to receiver channel with two 12mm countersunk phillips screws.
  6. Close door and ensure there is no interference between the bottom latch striker and bottom auxiliary lock body. Ensure the lock operates smoothly.  If adjustments are required loosen the two screws and adjust bottom latch striker position as required.
  7. Repeat all steps above in the How to Install a Sliding Security Door instructions for top auxiliary lock.

 12)     HOW TO INSTALL A SLIDING SECURITY DOOR - FIT FRAME INTERLOCK

  1. Slide the security door to the closed position.
  2. Place frame interlock on the non-lock stile of the security door so the 13mm flange is centered in the built-in interlock system on the glass door (or centered in the slot created with the fixed stile interlock installed in step 5). The frame interlock should be centered vertically on the fixed glass panel.
  3. Take note of where you can insert the security screws into the frame interlock such that the fasteners attach to the security door.
  4. Take the frame interlock down and pre-drill 5 equally spaced holes with the 4mm drill bit in the position noted in step 12.c of the How to Install a Sliding Security Door instructions. Keep the two end holes in 80mm from the end.
  5. Place frame interlock into same position as step 12.b of the How to Install a Sliding Security Door instructions. and pre-drill the security door frame with the 3mm drill bit through the top hole in the frame interlock.
  6. Insert security screw provided into top hole.
  7. Slide door the full length of the track while holding the frame interlock in position to ensure there is no interference between the frame interlock and glass door. If there is interference, remove the frame interlock and cut down with hacksaw to remove interference.
  8. Repeat steps e – g of the How to Install a Sliding Security Door instructions for remaining four holes moving sequentially from top to bottom

13)     HOW TO INSTALL A SLIDING SECURITY DOOR - FIT BUG SEAL

  1. Slide the security door to the closed position.
  2. Pre-drill bug seal wit the 3mm drill bit in three places near the top edge. 80mm in from each end and centre.
  3. The bug seal fits on the outside of the security door at the bottom with the raised edge facing out.
  4. Set the bug seal in this position by resting it on the mohair. The non-lock end of the bug seal should be flush or slightly in from the non-lock edge of the door. The lock end of the bug seal should be at least 1mm from the receiver channel.
  5. Pre-drill with the 3mm drill bit through one of the end holes into the door.
  6. Insert one of the 4-4 rivets.
  7. Repeat step e & f of the How to Install a Sliding Security Door instructions for remaining two hole.
