2) Â Â HOW TO MEASURE A HINGED SECURITY DOOR -Â CHECK NEW SECURITY DOOR CAN BE INSTALLED PROPERLY
Note: If your door does not meet ALL of the requirements listed below it is recommended you have your door measured & installed by a Local SecureView Expert. They can be located by going to www.secureview.com.au and selecting the contact tab.
The existing timber door needs to be hinged on the edge. Not a pivot door.
- The new security door will be an outswing (hung on the outside of the door jamb).
- The door jamb reveal needs to be 20mm or greater or have no reveal.
- The door jamb needs to be timber. You can still install the security door if your jamb is metal or concrete however, you will just need extra tools and the installation instructions do not cover door jambs of these materials.
- Check that the handle of your existing timber door will not interfere with the new security door. Place a straight edge across the outside of the door jamb at the same height as the existing timber door handle (Assuming the security door will be mounted flush with the exterior edge of the door jamb. See step 5.c.iii.Note:). Measure the distance between the straight edge and the existing handle. You will need a minimum of 20mm, but 23mm or greater is recommended.
- Check that the handle on the new security door will not interfere with the existing timber door. Place a straight edge across the outside of the door jamb (Assuming the security door will be mounted flush with the exterior edge of the door jamb. See step 5.c.iii.Note:). Measure the distance between the straight edge and the existing timber door. You will need a minimum of 53mm, but 56mm or greater is recommended.
- Check for any obstructions to the swing path of the new security door. Take note of items such as lights, awnings, walls, stairs and uneven ground or concrete.
If you are in doubt with any of the above criteria please take a picture and send it to info@onlinesecurityscreens.com.au with your name and contact phone number.
Â
Note:Â All the below steps will need to be recorded on the Onlinesecurityscreens.com.au How to Measure a Hinged Security Door measure sheet to make ordering your door as easy and efficient as possible.
3) Â HOW TO MEASURE A HINGED SECURITY DOOR – Â DECIDE ON DOOR STYLE, TYPE & COLOUR
- Style: SecureView or Xceed
- Type: Security (Triple lock, 5 Pin Cylinder) or Safety (Single Lock, 5 Disc Cylinder)
- Colour: Use the colour chart that can be ordered from Onlinesecurityscreens.com.au to match existing window frames or door jamb. Alternatively, obtain the colour from your builder or house plans
4) Â Â HOW TOÂ MEASURE A HINGED SECURITY DOOR OPENING (Remember to record all measurements in millimetres.)
Note: All recorded measurements must be make size, the factory will not do any deductions.
- How to Measure a Hinged Security Door Height: Measure the height of the opening in three places. The two edges and the centre. Deduct 10mm from the smallest measurement & record on the measure sheet.
- How to Measure a Hinged Security Door Width:
i.    Top: Measure the width of the opening at the top & 150mm from the top. For Security doors with triple locks deduct 9mm off the smallest measurement & record on measure sheet. For Safety doors with single locks deduct 8mm off the smallest measurement & record on the measure sheet.
ii.    Centre: Measure the width of the opening at the centre. For both Security & Safety doors deduct 8mm from the measurement & record on the measure sheet.
iii.    Bottom: Measure the width of the opening at the bottom & 150mm up from the bottom. For Security doors with triple locks deduct 9mm off the smallest measurement & record on measure sheet. For Safety doors with single locks deduct 8mm off the smallest measurement & record on measure sheet.
Note: There can only be a maximum of 7mm difference between top & centre measurements and between bottom & centre measurements.
3. How to Measure a Hinged Security Door Lock Side: Stand on the outside of the door. Looking at the door decide on which side (Left or Right) that you want the lock to be on & record on measure sheet.
4. How to Measure a Hinged Security Door Lock Height: Measure to the top of the existing handle on the timber door and add 200mm. Alternatively, measure to the bottom of the existing handle and subtract 50mm. The third option is to place the lock at your desired location (lock height must exceed the two previous criteria). Record desired lock height on the measure sheet.
Note: If you have a long vertical handle on your existing timber door and you are unable to place the lock for the new security door at a desirable height, check if there is enough space between your existing timber door handle and the new security door for both handles to be at the same height. Place a straight edge across the outside of the door jamb (Assuming the security door will be mounted flush with the exterior edge of the door jamb. See step 5.c.iii.Note:). Measure the distance between the straight edge and the existing timber door handle. You will need a minimum of 53mm, but 56mm or greater is recommended. If you have the required minimum space you can place the lock of the security door at any height you want. If you do not have the required minimum space you will need a jamb adaptor installed. Please contact your Local SecureView Expert to have your door measured & installed. They can be located by going to www.secureview.com.au and selecting the contact tab.
5) Â Â HOW TO MEASURE A HINGED SECURITY DOOR -Â SELECT DOOR ACCESSORIES
Check off the below accessories you require on the measure sheet. OnlineSecurityScreens.com.au will calculate the size and quantity required.
- Bug Seal
- Pneumatic Door Closer
- Adhesive Mohair or Stop Bead
i.    20-22mm jamb reveal: No extras required.
ii.    23-26mm jamb reveal: Adhesive Mohair required.
iii.    27-35mm jamb reveal: Hinge Packers, Adhesive Mohair & Extended Striker required.
Note: You will need to deduct an additional 2mm on all three width measurements recorded previously if your door jamb falls within these specifications. Also your door will not be mounted flush with the exterior edge of the door jamb so earlier measurements for interference (Steps 2.e., 2.f., 4.d.) will not be valid and you will need to determine if there will be interference between your existing timber door and the new security door.
iv.    Greater than 35mm or No jamb reveal: Stop Bead required. You will need to choose your stop bead colour from the 5 colours available.
- Black
- Brown
- Primrose
- Stone Beige
- White
